Book Scholarships

We provide book scholarships to students of families who work in the Maine fisheries

100% of the proceeds from our Thursday night silent auction and Friday night live auction are given out to kids from Maine seafood families – and that is an unusual event in today’s tight economy!  Anything that you might be able to donate would be greatly appreciated – especially by the kids who, with our hope and blessings, will do Maine and its citizens proud in their future endeavors.

The Maine Fishermen’s Forum Book Scholarship Fund was established for the benefit of immediate family members (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter) of anyone actively participating in Maine’s seafood industry.  Undergraduates attending a two or four year college who are in at least their second year of their program are eligible for book scholarships of at least $1,000.00. Donations to the book scholarship fund are always welcome, and are tax deductible since the Maine Fishermen’s Forum is a non-profit organization.

The Maine Fishermen’s Forum Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Forum Book Scholarship Awards.

The next drawing for this book scholarship will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018  at the Samoset Resort in Rockport during the 43rd annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum.  Applications are available for downloading or by sending a SASE to Maine Fishermen’s Forum, PO Box 288, Bath, ME  04530.  The deadline date for submission is March 1, 2018.

“Thank you so much for making the financial aspect of college easier – the scholarship will cover next semester’s applied lesson expanses.  My grandfather and father are both fishermen and they passed the tradition on to me.  I am grateful to be part of such a supportive community.  Many Thanks”!!

“This scholarship adds untold help in achieving college goals for all recipients.  The money from this scholarship will help me to keep down the debt of college, which will allow me to stay in Maine and work in the state and community that I love.  I am proud to be part of  a fishing family, and am excited to stay in Maine and remain part of the fishing community as a Nurse when I complete school.  Thank you for helping provide a wonderful opportunity to all of us”.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Maine fishing community, I am able to take another step forward in pursuing my college degree.

As you know, my grandfather John Tripp, was a lobsterman who fished out of Criehaven, Maine.  He passed way suddenly after going out to haul on April 30th.  I received your scholarship award in the mail a few days after his passing.  I feel he would have been very proud and happy for me as he has been such a strong influence in my life and he truly represents my Maine roots”.
