Book Scholarships

We provide book scholarships to students of families who work in the Maine fisheries

100% of the proceeds from our Thursday night silent auction and Friday night live auction are given out to kids from Maine seafood families – and that is an unusual event in today’s tight economy!  Anything that you might be able to donate would be greatly appreciated – especially by the kids who, with our hope and blessings, will do Maine and its citizens proud in their future endeavors.

The Maine Fishermen’s Forum Book Scholarship Fund was established for the benefit of immediate family members (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter) of anyone actively participating in Maine’s seafood industry.  Undergraduates attending a two or four year college who are in at least their second year of their program are eligible for book scholarships of at least $1,000.00. Donations to the book scholarship fund are always welcome, and are tax deductible since the Maine Fishermen’s Forum is a non-profit organization.

The Maine Fishermen’s Forum Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Forum Book Scholarship Awards.

The next drawing for this book scholarship will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020  at the Samoset Resort in Rockport during the 43rd annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum.  Applications are available for downloading or by sending a SASE to Maine Fishermen’s Forum, PO Box 288, Bath, ME  04530.  The deadline date for submission is March 4, 2020.

“Please extend my sincerest gratitude to the entire Board of the Maine Fishermen’s Forum for choosing me as a recipient of the Scholarship Book Award.  Music has always been a huge part of my life, whether it was singing, playing instruments, writing songs or just listening.  I decided to chase my music dream by choosing a music school in Nashville, Tennessee and majoring in musics business.  This scholarship is helping me reach those dreams and I cannot express how much that means to me……..”

Adrianna from North Haven2018 Scholarship Recipient

“Just wanted to say a huge thank-you for the $1,600 scholarships you gave to my two boys – Liam and Nate.  A real bonus as we have three boys in college and it is very handy to catch a break.  Thank-you to all the hard working Mainers who contribute to making our fishing community so great.  Thank-you again.”

“My name is Nathaniel Erickson and I am one of this year’s recipients of the Scholarship Book Award.  Then you so much for your generous donation to me.  I am going into my senior year at Maine Maritime Academy as a Marine Engineering Operations major.  So far school has been a great experience and I am very excited to graduate this coming May after I take my Coast Guard Exams.  After graduation I hope to get a sailing job as a 3rd Assistant Engineer.  I have a student commercial clamming licenses, and I dig clams to help pay for school, and my father and brother dig clams as well.  Your donation is a huge help and I will put it to good use.  Thank you again for this donation, it is extremely appreciated.”

Nathaniel Erickson from ScarboroughScholarship Recepient

“Thank you so much for the Scholarship.  I was so excited when I found out I had won.  I will use this to continue my higher education so I will only have to dig clams part time.  I really love working on the ocean but I have learned through my work to value a college education.  Thank you for your support!”
