We would like to thank the health providers from USM School of Nursing for hosting the Health Clinic each year. This year these volunteers will conduct free blood pressure checks, glucose screening, cholesterol screening. A limited amount of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine may be available for a $10.00 donation (or free if a person is unable to pay). Health information will be provided to attendees. These services will be available on Thursday (10-4), Friday (9-4), and Saturday (9-2).
Skin Cancer Screening
Also, again this year, we welcome back Dr. Jensen from Maine Dermatology who will be conducting free skin cancer screening on Saturday from 9-2.
Hands-on Survival Training
The Coast Guard’s Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Program will provide water safety training on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for adults and kids.
They will provide life raft and immersion suit training training as well as instruction on water survival techniques and free inspections of immersion suits. Attendees are allowed to either bring their own suit or try one of the Coast Guard’s in the heated pool. “This training has saved lives – when was the last time you practiced?”
First Aid and CPR Training
The Maine Fishermen’s Forum will be offering First Aid and CPR Training from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Thursday, February 28th. This is a Coast Guard approved course and those completing it will receive an ASHI Certificate (American Health and Safety Institute). The Cost is $50.00 and the class size is limited to 10 students. This is on a First Come – First Serve basis.
Bar Harbor Savings and Loan is sponsoring the training, donating all materials.(books, first aid kits, cards, etc.) and is also paying the fee for each student to ASHI National Registration.
