We provide health clinics and hands-on survival training at the Forum

Health Clinic

We would like to thank the health providers from USM School of Nursing for hosting the Health Clinic each year.   In 2020 these volunteers conducted free blood pressure checks, glucose screening, cholesterol screening.  A limited amount of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine was available for a $10.00 donation (or free if a person was unable to pay).  Health information was provided to attendees.  These services were available on Thursday (10-4), Friday (9-4), and Saturday (9-2).  The information for 2021 will be posted as soon as available after 1/2/21.

Skin Cancer Screening

In 2020 Dr. Hoskstra, Gordon Paine,  and Dr. Kerry Lavigne from Camden Dermatology and Mohs Surgery volunteered to provide FREE skin cancer screenings and prevention information.   These services were available on Friday (9-4) and Saturday (9-2) in the Monhegan Room.  The information for 2021 will be posted as soon as available after 1/2/21.

Hands-on Survival Training

In 2020 the Coast Guard’s Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Program provided water safety training on Friday and Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for adults and kids.

They provided life raft and immersion suit training training as well as instruction on water survival techniques and free inspections of immersion suits.  Attendees were allowed to either bring their own suit or try one of the Coast Guard’s in the heated pool.  “This training has saved lives – when was the last time you practiced?”  The information for 2021 will be posted as soon as available after 1/2/21.

First Aid and CPR Training

In 2020 the Maine Fishermen’s Forum offering First Aid and CPR Training from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 5th.  This was a Coast Guard approved course and those completing it received an ASHI Certificate (American Health and Safety Institute).  The Cost was $50.00 and the class size was limited to 10 students.  This was on a First Come – First Serve basis. The information for 2021 will be posted as soon as available after 1/2/21.

Bar Harbor Savings and Loan  sponsored the training, donating all materials.(books, first aid kits, cards, etc.) and is also paid the fee for each student to ASHI National Registration.

100% of the registration fee supported the Maine Fishermen’s Forum!
